Seidenberg on the IR, Mayfield Recalled

Today it was announced that defenseman Dennis Seidenberg has been placed on the IR and is out indefinitely. It has been reported that the injury is likely a broken jaw. If it is a broken jaw then it most likely came from a shot block in the third period when the Panthers scored their first goal.

As a result of Seidenberg’s injury, Scott Mayfield has been recalled from Bridgeport. Mayfield signed a two year one-way deal this summer but before the season started he was placed on waivers and cleared. In 11 NHL regular-season games (six of them last season) and two playoff games (games six and seven in the 2014-2015 season against the Capitals), Mayfield has one goal. In 12 games in Bridgeport this season with the Sound Tigers, Mayfield has one goal and one assist.

Losing Seidenberg means the third defenseman on the IR for the Islanders (Travis Hamonic and Ryan Pulock are the other two). Through 15 games this season Seidenberg has four goals and four assists.
