The Doug Weight era saw its first loss on Sunday and tonight, they’ll look to rebound against the Columbus Blue Jackets (Barclays Center, 7:00 pm ET).
The Islanders are 4-1-1 in their last six including 2-0-1 with Doug Weight as head coach. Tonight Weight will most likely be challenged to his first tough lineup decision as coach. In his first two games as coach, injuries gave Weight no other option then to keep the same lineup. In the team’s last game, a 3-2 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, Weight got two regulars back in Boychuk and Clutterbuck. All he had to do was sub them in for their replacements (Boychuk for Mayfield and Clutterbuck for Gionta). Tonight, Andrew Ladd looks like he is ready to return to the lineup after a four game absence. With that, Weight will have to sit one of the 12 forwards from last game who can all be considered as regulars in the lineup for the most part. Who will he sit for Ladd? Will he sit Ryan Strome who he benched for a few shifts last game? Will he follow Capuano’s footsteps and bench Anthony Beauvillier or Shane Prince? Will he sit a struggling Brock Nelson?
The Greiss is Right:
On Monday it was announced that the NHL named Islanders goaltender Thomas Greiss as their second star of the week. Greiss finished the week with a 2-0-1 record, back-to-back shutouts (154:10 without letting up a goal), a .971 save percentage, and a 0.982 goals-against average.
