Today it was announced that Travis Hamonic, originally day-to-day, has been placed on the injured reserve (IR). The injury appears to have come against the Arizona Coyotes where Hamonic left the game after a knee-on-knee hit by Logan Crouse, then returned.

Hamonic was considered day-to-day and did not play in the team’s last game which was against the Florida Panthers. With Hamonic on the IR, the Islanders have called up Scott Mayfield from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
In three games with the Islanders this season, Mayfield has three points (one goal, two assists). In his first game of the season against the Tampa Bay Lightning he had 17 penalty minutes after sticking up for his captain and fighting J.T. Brown which got him a major for fighting, an instigator penalty, and a misconduct penalty. In the second game Scott Mayfield had two assists against the Pittsburgh Penguins. His first assist was a shot from the point that deflected off of Jason Chimera and found its way past Matt Murray. For his second assist, Mayfield played the puck in front of the Penguins’ net and it bounced to Casey Cizikas who put it past Murray. His next game came against the New York Rangers and filling in for Johnny Boychuk, he scored a Boychuk-like goal to open the scoring.
